ARK Inc. is an investment company with a difference.

The traditional notion of ‘investment’ relies upon making a monetary contribution to an idea, product or venture which is expected to grow, and provide a greater financial return in the future.

We have a different understanding of value which recognises that the value of investments is necessarily related to their surroundings: their social and economic context. [link to FAQ about value]

Many responses designed to address the apparent unsustainability of our current economic system are aimed merely at amending the current paradigm – increased use of ICT, developing alternative means of producing energy with a view to maintaining current levels of production and growth – making familiar practices more sustainable rather than looking for more radical alternatives.

ARK Inc.’s attitude to investment sees no value in investing in products and actions that have a high value now (fossil fuel powered transport, modern communications technology, etc.) but which cannot be expected to retain their value in a ‘post-Crash’ world. Our strategy is to direct investment into the development of knowledge and equipment predicted to have high utility in the future.

Through Ark Inc. our fee-paying members will develop a portfolio of investments that will hold, and in many cases gain value, as and when current systems and institutions begin to crumble.
